Immigration Overhaul Ranks Low in Voter Priorities

Overhaul Ranks Low in Voter Priorities
    April 14, 2009 12:16 PM

While President Obama is reportedly making preparations for a new push on immigration, the issue ranks at the bottom of five priorities that Rasmussen reports presented to voters in a poll conducted April 11-12.

Forty-one percent put top priority on reducing the deficit, 26 percent on health care reform, 11 percent on finding new energy sources, 9 percent on ensuring every child has access to a good education and 5 percent on passing a comprehensive immigration overhaul.

Yes, it ranks low---unless you are a craven, political opportunist!

    Sosad,
I intrepret the poll as the fact that Obama has no mandate to push his CIR amnesty scheme, so this is actually good news for our pro-enforcement side (other Rasmusseun polls show that border control is preferred over legalization by a wide margin).

Here is the actual poll question:

Which of the following is the most important objective for Congress and the President to accomplish this year—reducing the budget deficit, passing health care reform, finding new energy sources, ensuring that every child has access to a complete and competitive education, or passing comprehensive immigration reform?

    41% Reducing the budget deficit
    26% Passing health care reform
    11% Finding new energy sources
9% Ensuring every child has access to a complete and competitive education

    5% Passing comprehensive immigration reform

    7% Not sure
