McALLEN, Texas — A Democrat Texas State State Senator appears to have reached across party lines when he recently stated that news outlets focusing on illegal immigration fail to focus on cartel crimes.

“When talking about illegal immigration and issues on the border, most news have focused on women and children,” said Texas Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa during a news conference attended by Breitbart Texas about a new law enforcement center in south Texas. “What doesn’t get mentioned is that there are illegal immigrants that come across with bad intentions and do carry out criminal activity. Such as these cartel individuals.”

Hinojosa stated that Mexican drug cartels have presented a series of challenges to U.S. law enforcement in Texas that need to be addressed. The claim by Hinojosa is something that Democrats have long denied or tried to minimize in an attempt to draw attention away from border issues. The law enforcement center that Hinojosa and other politicians announced is aimed at gathering and disseminating intelligence along the border.

As Breitbart Texas has been reporting, Mexico’s Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas Cartel have been able to successfully move hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and large quantities of narcotics into Texas, thus being able to overwhelm law enforcement capabilities in certain areas.

Currently, the south Texas area known as the Rio Grande Valley is seeing record-setting numbers of illegal immigrants in detention, officials with the National Border Patrol Council revealed to Breitbart Texas exclusively. McAllen has been seeing an average of 400 Central American women and children who are detained and released on a daily basis as drug cartels continue to use U.S. policy and politics as a marketing tool, Breitbart Texas recently reported.

“This is something that we have to address, we have to ensure the safety of people in Texas,” Hinojosa said.
