A federal grand jury has indicted a Texas Department of Public Safety lieutenant, accusing him of helping people fraudulently obtain identification documents.
Alvaro Ivan Adame, 40, worked at driver's license offices in Dallas and in Wichita Falls
He was arrested this morning in Dallas, charged with conspiracy to transfer unlawfully issued identification documents. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
According to court documents, Adame and a co-defendant, Ruben Gomez-Luevano, conspired to transfer identification documents, including New Mexico and Texas driver's licenses, that were illegally produced.
Another a co-defendant, Reyes David Martinez, 21, took people back and forth from the Dallas area to New Mexico, where he helped them obtain fraudulent New Mexico residency documents, according to the court records. These were used to obtain New Mexico driver's licenses.
He would then bring individuals to Texas DPS offices -- including those where Adame worked -- to exchange New Mexico licenses for Texas licenses.
Gomez-Luevano and Martinez are in federal custody.
Martinez has agreed to plead guilty next month.
