Illegal alien Armando Alvarez Morales faces indictment in Coweta Superior Court today on charges of rape, false imprisonment, three counts of aggravated sodomy and two counts of sexual battery.

Morales was arrested July 16, 2006, after reports that he violently raped and brutalized a 48-year-old Newnan woman.

According to Detective Sgt. Elaine Jordan of the Newnan Police Department, Morales' victim was familiar with him and was aware that he was a resident of South Street.

On July 16 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Morales, then 22, conned the woman into helping him carry items into his home at 28 South St., at which time he locked the door and refused to let her leave.

Morales then reportedly stripped the victim's clothing off, opened the back door and pushed her off a tall porch. He then ran into the backyard and dragged her up the steps and back into the house where he raped, sodomized and beat her for several hours, according to Jordan's investigation.

At approximately 9 a.m., Morales helped the victim put her clothes back on and pushed her out the front door. With several broken bones, the victim crawled to the street and began screaming and crying for help, said Jordan.

According to police, a passerby heard the victim's cries and alerted police. Other witnesses on the scene did nothing to help as they watched the woman cry for help, according to Jordan.

The victim was treated at the hospital for a broken leg, a broken arm and deep tissue bruises over her entire body. She had to undergo surgeries to correct the damage done in the vicious attack.

The victim was able to identify her attacker in a police lineup, and Morales was arrested that evening by Jordan at his sister's house in Newnan.
