Two Retired Generals Issue Warning About Border Violence
    Reported by: Jordan Williams
    Last Update: 11:53 pm

CHANNEL 5 NEWS (KRGV, 2010) AUSTIN - Two retired generals hope they can wake up Washington, D.C.. They just issued a new report about drug cartels and safety along the U.S. Mexico Border.

The information in the report is alarming. The retired generals who wrote it say the cartels are creating a safe zone along the border including here in the Valley.

The military analysis was requested by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.

He wants the nation's leaders to listen that the threat gets more violent every day.

"The U.S. border is increasingly insecure and farmers and ranchers are intimidated. Hundreds of people have been murdered on our side of the border," says Retired General Barry McCaffrey.

Retired four star General Barry McCaffrey wrote the report along with General Robert Scales.

"The activity of the cartels south of the border and their intentions amounts to a narco-war," says Scales.

General Scales says it's a war that's already crossed the border. He believes the cartels are setting up sanctuary zones in Texas' border counties.

"It allows them to push the battlefield north, and two, it allows them to escape the increasing threat from the Mexican Military," says General Scales.

He says it also allows them easy access to ship drugs to hundreds of U.S. cities.

Texas Congressman Michael McCaul says the federal government is in denial.

"When we have the administration testifying that it's never been more secure, and we have a president basically saying mission accomplished in El Paso. It's not mission accomplished, we have a lot of work to do," says Congressman McCaul.

Retired General McCaffrey believes what Texas is doing is working. He says federal agents should follow the lead, if they don't things could get ugly.

"We're gonna have a shameful incident on the U.S. border in the coming years if we don't amp up security on the frontier. It's coming," says General McCaffrey.

The general says cartels are already acting like insurgents and have all the makings of a modern military.

Congressman McCaul plans to hand deliver the report to the department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C.. He wants the generals to come and testify and present their findings.

The way to handle a combat zone is the use of all out force and lots of it. Use whatever force needed to take over the situation and that includes the use of whatever arms and force to prevent incursion ove the border. Its now a point where we need to show no mercy and we need to take back the security of the border from end to end. Its going to come to the point where mexico will need to preplan funerals for those who intend to cross the border. We are sick and tired of their total disrespect for our laws and border. They need to be taught the lesson that the border means you cannot come into the USA illegally.

    Gee--

Gee-- I thought Rick Perry had all this under control.

Wait, I know, let's give them education and give them discounts on tuition--that will fix everything.

BTW -- you are already paying for their education through SS, WIC, welfare, Medicaid and on and on.
