Texas names 3 in Indian tribe immigration scheme

Texas names 3 in Indian tribe immigration scheme

    Associated Press - August 21, 2007 10:14 PM ET

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - Texas is suing a Kansas Indian tribe that's not recognized by the federal government, in an immigration-related investigation.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says the tribe sells "Certificates of Citizenship" that falsely claim to give tribal membership to illegal immigrants.

Abbott filed the civil lawsuit against the Kaweah Indian Nation of Wichita. He is seeking fines of up to $20,000 per violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices act.

The suit also names Malcolm Webber of Wichita -- also knows as "Grand Chief Thunderbird the Fourth" -- and two Texas men.

Webber's daughter says the case is a misunderstanding and the tribe isn't doing anything wrong.

A lawyer for the National Congress of American Indians calls the Kaweahs "a total sham."

The news tonight had stories of several tribes in
SEVERAL states selling memberships to illegals.

Must be payback to "whitey", yet again. No wonder
there are thousands of years of war in the Middle East.
No one forgives or forgets or even says , "hey, that was
history". Nope they just drag it out. But hey, lets get those
white people, come on, the root of all evil, that's whitey.
