Project has 100 leaders ready to start border activity in Lone Star State

The Minuteman Project, the citizen border patrol that virtually stopped illegal crossings from Mexico in a highly trafficked area of Arizona, is taking its activities to another popular spot for entering the U.S. – the Lone Star State.

According to a statement from the organization, the first authorized Texas affiliate of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps will begin training and recruiting for operations this weekend in Goliad, Texas. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps Inc. is a new national organization founded by Chris Simcox, co-founder of the original Minuteman Project in Arizona.

The organization says there are over 100 border-area ranchers and private land owners who will lead this first Texas Minuteman group. A gathering of the volunteers for the media is planned for Monday evening in Goliad.
"The Texas border is pretty dangerous right now," Simcox told the Houston Chronicle last month. That won't scare the Minutemen away, he said, but it does mean they will be more careful in planning their operations, which might even include efforts to disrupt the flow of drugs.

"Security becomes a serious issue because we are going to be annoying a lot of people," including leaders of the drug cartels, Simcox noted.

As WorldNetDaily reported, in April the Arizona Minuteman volunteers guarded a 23-mile stretch of the border where one out of every five of the 1.1 million illegal immigrants arrested last year crossed into the U.S. Rather than confront or detain illegal aliens themselves, the volunteers reported illegal crossers to the Border Patrol.

Though some Texas officials are wary of a Minuteman Project taking root on the border, the largest Border Patrol union in the nation declared its support for the citizen movement in Arizona.

According to the group's site, plans are also in the works for border activity in California and New Mexico.
