Third of votes still out in Sanchez-Tran race

Election officials have not yet counted about a third of the ballots cast in the cutthroat Congressional race between Democrat Loretta Sanchez and Republican Van Tran, according to county estimates.

Sanchez held what appeared to be a decisive lead over Tran in updated election results released late Thursday afternoon. She had just under 51 percent of the vote, while Tran had just more than 42 percent.

Election officials still have around 30,000 votes to count in their 47th District race in central Orange County, Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley said.
Most of those are last-minute, vote-by-mail ballots dropped at the polls instead of in the mail, he said; around 8,000 are provisional ballots that still need to be verified.

By comparison, election workers have so far counted 66,975 ballots in the race, according to Thursday's election totals.

Kelley said his office likely won't get to the provisional ballots until early next week. He said he plans to make the ballots in the Sanchez-Tran race a priority, and hopes to get through all of them within two weeks.

The demographics of the district must have changed a lot since Bob Dornan held that seat if they keep reelecting a liberal Democrat.
Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...

Yes, I've heard there are many more residents than voters.
