Third world immigration policy and disease

Intro to an article on Tropical diseases in the US.

"Large numbers of the poorest Americans living in the United States are suffering from some of the same parasitic infections that affect the poor in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, says the editor of the science journal, PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases."

Later on in the article it gives you a clue as to how these diseases got here.

"A related study in this week's journal, by Thomas Nutman (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA ) and colleagues, documents a sizeable number of imported cases to the US of parasitic worm infections (filarial infections) that are predominantly found in the developing world."

Looks like our third world immigration policy is making this country more and more like the third world.

    Welcome aboard WebRanger!

Yes, indeed - and the one that I find particularly scary is Chagas ("Kissing Bug" disease [or something very close to that...])

The frightening part is, is that many of those from Central America, South Mexico are infected by it, but, presently very little of the blood supply here is screened for it. Even worse, it's symptoms rarely appear until years after initial infection - but when they do, the disease wreaks full-blown major organ damage.

Scary stuff I tell you, scary stuff.

Oh yeah - I neglected to mention - there's no antidote or vaccine for it yet either. You get infected with it, good luck - the future will be bad at some point - no doubt about it.

'Bedbugs' are another problem that the US has not had in decades, now they are all over the place in NYC. Brought in from Third World countries. Eventually, there is going to be a disease outbreak with substantial loss of life- maybe then people will wake up to this threat.

Welcome, Webranger! It's great to have articles like that from highly recognized sources. Please keep them coming.

Of course, the US will get lambasted if it doesn't halt these diseases.
