Truckers' strikes halts border traffic for 4 hours

Published Tuesday, April 21, 2009 8:37 PM MDT

A four-hour strike by Mexican truckers protesting slow processing times by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Mariposa Port of Entry ended at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Acting Nogales Port Director, Armando Goncalvez met with the local administrator for Servicio de Administracion Tributaria (SAT), the equivalent of the U.S. Department of Treasury, and designated leaders for commercial trucking operators in Mexico in an effort to find a resolution for a strike that started at about noon.

At about 3 p.m., Goncalvez “initiated communications with the leaders of the Mexico trucking operators on strike,â€

Now let me get this straight. We're spending $237 million to on a borders facility during the worst depression since the Great Depression so Mexican Truckers can get whizzed into the US faster than when we were reallywith their products that most Americans would rather than made in Omaha and Dallas and Detroit and Chicago and Charlotte and Phoenix and Los Angeles and Baltimore and Richmond and Buffalo and Green Bay?!

Well, gee, why don't we give $237 million to some towns in America and tell them go bring some of our industries back to the US and then we won't ned to clear as many Mexican Truckers through the Mariposa Port of Entry?

And then the Mexican Truckers won't have to wait as long to have their vehicles checked for drugs, illegal aliens, contraband and terrorists.

    Problem Solved.

    speaking of truckers

Speaking of truckers, I remember about a year ago an accident just north of Los Angeles, (I-5, or I-405) where a big rig crashed in a tunnel. Rumors, and I repeat they are rumors, as far as I know, that the driver was illegal. I think the crash resulted in a few deaths, major fire, and hours of clogged traffic.

Does anyone remember this and know if in fact the driver was illegal or not?

jonhaloi INTERESTING. I remember that happening.

These truckers shouldn't be able to driver in the United States. American Truckers should be waiting at the border at least with our America Company trucks for incoming products.

I'm only disappointed they won't go on strike forever. I recently saw a news show with U.S. truckers saying they wouldn't dare travel into Mexico. First lost would be their load, second loss would be their equipment and third loss would be their lives. How about they demand Mexico provide armed guards for all U.S. trucks in Mexico?

Mexico commercial cargo drivers were upset at increased inspections and enforcement efforts resulting in fewer trips than they would like to accomplish daily.

America is not checking the cargo from Mexico. Every truck must be checked. They check vehicles entering Military Bases. Isn't our country and civilians important, too.
