Three In Custody After Illegal Immigration Incident

    http://www.wral.com/news/7255690/detail.html

NASH COUNTY, N.C. -- Three people were detained Monday morning after two of the people told authorities a woman refused to pay them for smuggling her into the country.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol stopped a red Ford van on Interstate 95 around 1 a.m. Monday near mile marker 150 in Nash County after reports that two men were seen forcing a woman into a van in Virginia, said Lt. Everett Clendenin of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

When authorities approached the van, they found the woman that had been allegedly abducted. She told authorities that she was in the country illegally and that two men in the van had helped her enter the country illegally.

When the two men were questioned, they confirmed the woman's story, but said that she had refused to pay them, so they were returning her to Mexico.

All three are now in the custody of U.S. Immigration officials, Clendenin said.

    UPDATED: 5:40 pm EST February 20, 2006

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Six people were arrested early Monday on suspicion of smuggling people into the country illegally, authorities said.

After receiving a call from Virginia authorities about a possible abduction, North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers stopped a Ford Econoline van on southbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 150 at about 1 a.m., said Lt. Everett Clendenin, of the Highway Patrol.

Inside the van, the troopers found four Hispanic men and two Hispanic women. One of the women told authorities the men abducted her because she didn't pay her transportation fees into the country, Clendenin said.

All six are believed to be illegal immigrants and were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Clendenin said. They have been identified as Elsie Yosef-Gustio, 33, Maria Teresa Jocol-Morales, 20, Alejandro Ramirez-Mendez, 25, Jose David Garcia, 28, David Alejandro Velasquez-Rodriguez, 20, and Josa Guillermo Rodriquez, 35.
