MALDEF on U.S. SENATE VOTE ON IMMIGRATION REFORM

STATEMENT OF MALDEF PRESIDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL JOHN TRASVIÑA ON U.S. SENATE VOTE ON IMMIGRATION REFORM

    http://www.maldef.org/news/index2.cfm?English=yes

June 28, 2007 - Today, the forces of delay and divide teamed up to defeat comprehensive immigration reform legislation. But the hopes and needs of the American people - native and newcomer alike - will not be deterred. The status quo is simply indefensible. Families remain at risk of being split up; businesses remain unable to hire legal workers for all their jobs; and the immigration system can not effectively devote resources to protect America's security or future.

We thank those Senators who, on a bipartisan basis, carried out their duties under the Constitution to craft immigration policy. The remainder leaves America with neither solution nor vision. Congress has two houses and we now call upon the House of Representatives to address, and not ignore, our immigration policies so they can serve our families, our security and our economy.

Trasvina, you couldn't be more full of bull if you were a cow...can I say that? ILLEGALS are NOT Americans...newcomers or otherwise. People born here and here LEGALLY are Americans. Families being split up...well, we all know the response to that one! And Businesses can hire all the legal workers they want for jobs....they're called Americans, Trasvina. The only thing you got right is that the status quo is indefensible. Illegals have been the status quo so long, and that has got to be changed...by getting them out of our country!

I would be a little careful if I were them in regards to appealing to the House. The impression I get is the house is leaning toward enforcement of our current laws NOT granting amnesty to undeserving felons !

Technically everybody that lives on the continent of America are Americans, north central or south America. We are citizens of the United States of the America's or U.S. citizens.

I don't like it either but its hard to argue with the facts and all of these other countries do consider themselves Americans because they live on the northern , central or southern continient of the America's.

    Look at this spin:

the forces of delay and divide
------ The spin machine spinning more:

But the hopes and needs of the American people - native and newcomer alike - will not be deterred
--- see how the "American people" includes illegal aliens which are equated to a "newcomer".

The status quo is simply indefensible
---- This is the only statement in this Spin Zone that has a shred of truth. The status quo of open borders and unenforcement of our immigration laws is indefensible. But, of course, the statement doesn't go this far. Also, to continue with the thought of not going far enough the correct statement based on the fact of the huge number of flaws in this bill should have been..."But passing the Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation would have extremely confounded the situation and would have been even more indefensible."

Families remain at risk of being split up
--- that would be because of the illegal acts of the lawbreaking illegal alien. Sorry, I have no sympathy...calll Kennedy, Feinstein, Boxer, Martinez, Menendez, Graham, Reid, McCain for a shoulder to cry on.

businesses remain unable to hire legal workers for all their jobs
---- uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh...what??? This makes absolutely no sense nor has any logic to it whatsoever...let me repeat their statement: "businesses remain unable to hire LEGAL workers for all their jobs." Nope, still hasn't made any sense. Let me think this over again...businesses will be unable to hire legal workers for their jobs. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...no, sorry...just doesn't make any sense. Guess I'll just have to move on.

the immigration system can not effectively devote resources to protect America's security or future.
-------- Let's see the spin here...America cannot protect it's borders unless it legalizes the 20 million illegal aliens already here. And America has no future unless it legalizes the illegal aliens. Nope, this one doesn't pass the smell test either.

We thank those Senators who, on a bipartisan basis, carried out their duties under the Constitution to craft immigration policy.
---I'll re-read the U.S. Constitution, but I'll go out on a limb here and just say...I highly doubt the Constitution requires Senators to craft immigration policy and certainly doesn't require them to craft legislation that legalizes illegal alien lawbreakers and criminals.

Congress has two houses and we now call upon the House of Representatives to address, and not ignore, our immigration policies
---- Since when does the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF) have the right to petition the United States Congress to do anything, much less adress immigration reform which MALDEF wants to craft to their benefit?

immigration policies so they can serve our families, our security and our economy.
----- Boy, this is mega spin action. They want immigration policies to serve their families which are all here illegally, except for any anchor babies which is a major defect in our system. They want our immigration policy to address their security eventhough they are here illegally so they want assurances they will be given immediate legal standing so they will not be deported. They want our immigration policies to provide assurances that our economy will provide them with economic security.

So, there you have it. Seven sentences split into two small paragraphs and look at the massive amount of ethnocentric spin put into that small comminique. These illegal alien agenda groups are masters at spin, every bit the equals of the pro-amnesty senators.

SORRY I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU. THE NAME OF OUR COUNTRY IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. IN THE AMERICAS THERE ARE TWO CONTINENTS. NORTH AMERICA AND SOUTH MERICA. EVERYONE ON THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT IS NORTH AMERICAN AND EVERYONE ON THE SOUTH AMERICAN CONTINENT ARE SOUTH AMERICANS.

WE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ARE IN FACT AMERICANS. AMERICA HAPPENS TO BE PART OF THE NAME OF OUR COUNTRY....AND THAT IS WHY WE ARE AMERICANS (BY COUNTRY) WE ARE ALSO NORTH AMERICAN (BY CONTINENT) ALONG WITH CANADIANS, MEXICANS, AND EVERYONE IN THE CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES (CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES ARE ALSO ON THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT) CENTRAL AMERICA IS THE NAME OF A REGION, NOT OF A CONTINENT.

ANYONE NOT LIVING IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS NOT (SIMPLY) AMERICAN. FOR INSTANCE BRAZILIANS ARE SOUTH AMERICAN. SALVADOREANS ARE NORTH AMERICANS(AND CENTRAL AMERICAN BY REGION). MEXICANS ARE NORTH AMERICANS. AND SO ON.

WHEN WE SAY WE ARE AMERICAN, WE ARE IDENTIFYING OURSELVES BY COUNTRY. MEXICANS ARE MEXICAN BY COUNTRY AND NORTH AMERICAN BY CONTINENT.

'Immigration policies' should mean our immigration laws that are not enforced. It's time we follow those laws.
We, the citizens, have to follow laws, so should our government!

Look on a globe we are the United States when using the term of America it is describing us as being on the continent of America technically.

We have used the term Americans so long we think we have the complete rights to it. Well many other countries on the North American contienent or So. American continent for that matter, (if they feel like leaving out the South), feel the same way. facts are we all live on the same Continent and that continent is North or south America. Like It or not they can call themselves Mexican American it is their right , but they can not call themsevles U.S. citizens. again when using the term (of America )it is describing the United States as being on that continent.

Same as Euorpeans eveybody that lives on that contienent are Euorpeans and that is many different countires.
