SAN DIEGO – A 30-year-old Tijuana man accused of taking sexually explicit photos of his 5-year-old daughter and having the film developed in San Diego pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Juan Carlos Chimal-Moran pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child during an appearance before U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez, Hewitt said.

Chimal-Moran admitted during the hearing that he took the photos at his home in Tijuana and then took the film to a store in San Diego to be developed.

According to court records, the store manager called San Diego police on July 17 to report that the film, which had been dropped in an after-hours box, had 34 photos of a young girl engaged in a variety of sexual poses and acts.

Chimal-Moran was arrested July 21 when he went to the store to pick up the pictures, court records show.
He is scheduled to be sentenced April 27 and faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.
