TIJUANA — It has been a record year for marijuana seizures in Baja California, and on Thursday, military authorities announced the latest confiscations, both in Tijuana.

Inside a house in the city’s Mesa de Otay district, soldiers detained two suspects, seized more than 2.6 tons and a 1997 Chevrolet Cheyenne. The seizure led them to a second house in a nearby zone, where they found more than 1.8 tons.

Gen. Gilberto Landeros, commander of Baja California’s Second Military Zone, said the military has participated in the confiscation of nearly 300 tons of marijuana this year. The largest by far was last October’s unprecedented seizure of 134 tons after municipal police chanced upon a convoy of drug traffickers driving near the city's main bus station.
