    My Personal Editorial

Several months ago, when the US - Mexico Totalization Agreement came to light, I sent an email message to my personal mailing list detailing my thoughts in regard to this matter. It's an editorial, really. Because of recent events, I have re-edited this message and I am posting it here since I do not know where else it could be posted, but I am posting it with the hope that it will help anyone from ALIPAC deal with these issues that concern ourselves and all US Citizens in regard to the problems of Illegal Immigration. If anyone feels that it may help, then feel free to use it in any legal way that might help our cause. You may copy all or part of it into an email message of your own, if you think it may help. Here it is in its entirety:

I am sending this message to everyone in my personal e-mail address list (blind copied to each of you for your address privacy) and I hope that after reading it, you will consider creating a similar letter and send it out to your friends. As most of you may know, I do not usually send out messages that are political in nature to my personal friends as I consider such communications intrusive when I receive them without my consent; especially if those messages contain negative, divisive rhetoric. I chose to write each of you because an issue has occurred that I feel we must all become aware of; one that concerns the retirement years of every United States Citizen. Therefore, I hope that you do not feel this message is intrusive to you and that you will read through it in its entirety. This message expresses my personal opinions which may or may not be in agreement with your own. An important article follows at the end.

Whether you may be a Republican or a Democrat, it often becomes very important for all of us to try to set aside political party differences in order to work together in finding solutions to pertinent issues that may adversely affect our well-being. The overtly childish, very often cynical divisiveness that has pervaded our country’s political atmosphere over the last several years does not help us to achieve this end. One very perplexing issue has been introduced into Congress that may threaten the foundation of our Social Security retirement plans. That issue involves the proposed US - Mexico Totalization Agreement, which would provide U.S. Social Security Benefits to Mexican citizens who have worked in the United States without legal admission into our country… and to members of their families living in Mexico.

I am asking all of you to consider this message and do what you can to oppose this agreement, if you feel moved to do so, and I would certainly hope that you do. It is our future that is at stake and it’s about time that United States Citizens start looking out for each other. There is no need for you to reply back to me. I am simply asking you to access the websites of the Federation for American Immigration Reform and Americans for Legal Immigration, read through every aspect of this issue, formulate your own opinions and make your voices heard by contacting your Representatives and your Senators to express your thoughts and opinions about it.

Apparently, the U.S./Mexico Totalization Agreement was signed by the United States’ Commissioner of Social Security and by the Director General of Mexican Social Security on June 29, 2004 and it is now on the floor of our Congress. It can go into effect as early as October of this year. This agreement with Mexico is expected to cost Social Security between $720 million and $1 billion each year (See article below for complete details). You may read more about it and other Immigration issues on the websites of the Federation for American Immigration Reform and at Americans for Legal Immigration at: http://www.alipac.us/ If you have trouble with these links, then simply type “Federation for American Immigration Reformâ€
