TN: Man settles Clarksville rape case

    Man settles Clarksville rape case

    July 20, 2011

A man pleaded guilty to the sexual battery of a woman this morning in Judge John H. Gasaway’s court.

Valentin Cornelio Corntreras, 34, was charged with rape.

He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of sexual battery, an E felony and was sentenced to a time served sentence. He had served 296 days in the Montgomery County Jail.

Contreras is an illegal alien, in the country on an expired education visa and working illegally. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a hold on him with intentions to deport him, according to his attorney, Charles Bloodworth, assistant public defender.

A woman reported she was in the vicinity of Contreras apartment looking for an individual and began to be harassed in the neighborhood known for drugs and prostitution.

The woman, who was Spanish speaking, saw Contreras and they communicated in Spanish before he invited her inside to have a beer. Several people were inside the home and the woman reported she drank and beer and was then pressured to do cocaine, Bloodworth said.

The woman reported she began feeling woozy and couldn’t remember the next few hours but knew Contreras had sexually assaulted her,

Bloodworth said the case had a “bizarre’ nature.

The woman believed she had contracted a disease from Contreras took him to the Health Department for testing.

When she reported to the staff at the health department she believed she was raped they told her she needed to contact the police.

The woman went to the hospital but all physical evidence was gone. She did not contact police because she believed they would not believe her, Bloodworth read into court record.

The Health Department, however, did contact Clarksville police who took a statement from the woman.

The woman then tried to gather more evidence to prove she was raped. She rigged a camera in her truck, picked up Contreras and took him for a ride, recording audio and video of their conversation.

During that conversation he made statements that could be used against him telling her he wasn’t that kind of man but it was the alcohol.

If Contreras is not deported he must register as a Tennessee sex offender.

    If Contreras is not deported
Seems to suggest 'sexual battery' is one of the lesser crimes that is allowable under the new ICE policy.
