A | A | A MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An illegal immigrant deported once before is facing drug charges in Hamblen County, according to a Morristown Police Department news release.

Ismael Cortes, 30, is charged with Possession of Cocaine for Sale, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon after officers executed a warrant at a motel on Andrew Johnson Highway in Morristown around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday night.

"During the search detectives found over two ounces of powder cocaine, a .25 caliber handgun, and digital scales used to weigh and distribute narcotics," the release states. "Mr. Cortes was also found to be in possession of money believed to be proceeds from the sale of illegal narcotics."

Cortes will face federal prosecution for allegedly being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and illegal narcotics.

Morristown police say Cortes may also face immigration charges for re-entering the country after having been deported.
