Togolese man deported after assaulting officials at Togo Embassy

WASHINGTON — A Togo national, convicted of assault of a foreign official, was deported on Monday and turned over to Togolese law enforcement officials by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers.

Kokou Dzifa Bocco, 34, was deported to Togo, on a commercial flight out of Dulles International Airport. Upon arrival at the Lomé-Tokoin Airport in Lomé, Togo, he was turned over to Togolese law enforcement authorities.

Bocco was arrested in November 2009 for attacking officials at the Embassy of Togo with a knife. He was subsequently convicted in February 2011 of assault of a foreign official, which is an aggravated felony. He was sentenced to time served, which was approximately 15 months in prison.

"ICE ERO will continue identifying, arresting and removing convicted criminal aliens as one of our top priorities," said Enrique M. Lucero, field office director for ICE ERO in Washington, D.C.

He was ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge on Sept.19, 2011.
