As a final moment of public comment, Larwill area resident Bill Hicks proposed to the council that they pass a motion making American English the official language of the town.

He presented the council with a list of United States senators who recently voted against a national bill that would make English the official language of the United States, and said that those in power are only interested in being re-elected and not in dealing with the real problems facing the country.

“This is a travesty because these people want the Hispanic and Latino vote” he said of the representatives.

Hicks cited other towns and municipalities in the United States that have recently passed similar motions to make Enlgish the language of those towns.

“If we don’t do something we won’t have a country left,” he said of the issue of illegal immigration.

Flauding said he and the town’s attorney would look into the issue and what would need to be done to make English the official language of Larwill.

In other business, the town’s trick-or-treat hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.
