Van flips, kills city traffic control aide
SOUTHWEST SIDE | Driver, 17, charged in year's 2nd death

Jaynes Gage had been a traffic aide since June 2005, Smith said.

"She was a very nice young lady. She was very conscientious about work ethics, and she was very health conscious," said Shari Nichols-Sweat, a cousin. Nichols-Sweat said she and Jaynes Gage are cousins of Hudson, a Chicago native who won the Best Supporting Actress this year for her performance in "Dreamgirls."
Pat Durant, a neighbor of Jaynes Gage, said the family had lived in their Bronzeville two-flat for about six years. Jaynes Gage tended to keep to herself, but would often talk about "American Idol" as her cousin gained fame on the show, Durant said.

"Angela was very low key about everything," Durant said. "Angie didn't complain about anything other than gaining weight."

The previous fatal accident involving a traffic aide occurred March 7, when Julian "Jay" Alamillo, 44, was hit by a car during in the 4700 block of West Grand Avenue while a motorist tried to get around a line of stopped traffic. Alamillo died three days later.
