Traffic stop leads to arrest of 13 illegal immigrants


PHOENIX A driver speeding and driving erratically has led to the arrests of 13 illegal immigrants including two alleged smugglers.

Maricopa County Sheriffs deputies along with Peoria Police made the joint traffic stop in the northwest valley near Lake Pleasant last night.

Once the van was stopped, authorities found several illegal immigrants attempting to hide in the rear compartment of a Dodge van.

The sheriffs office say its anti-smuggling unit took over the investigation and questioned the driver and occupants.

They along with the alleged smugglers were taken into custody and booked in the Sheriffs downtown jail on charges of Arizonas felony human smuggling law.

So often the drivers try to run and law enforcement calls off the chase and as they continue to run, they flip the vehicle anyway.
