Treasury investigating Florida over migrants sent to Martha's Vineyard

The inspector general said his office "has audit work planned".

The Treasury Department's inspector general has told Massachusetts Democrats that he is investigating Florida's use of government funds to send illegal migrants to Martha's Vineyard last month.

The inspector general informed the lawmakers in a letter sent last week and published Tuesday in which the IG's office says it has "has audit work planned" on whether the state of Florida "has improperly used funds," including COVID-19 relief money, to transport migrants to the wealthy Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard.

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) confirmed the letter and said Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is being investigated for his use of Covid relief funds to "cruelly transport immigrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard under false pretenses and without any consideration for their personal dignity or basic needs."

DeSantis is also facing a lawsuit from some of the migrants, who alleged that they boarded the plane to the island under false pretenses.
