Gregg, Shaheen want Border Patrol station in NH

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Sens. Judd Gregg and Jeanne Shaheen want the government to build a new Border Patrol station in Colebrook, N.H.

They wrote Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to say Colebrook would be a better site than Canaan, Vt.

Colebrook, they say, is on Route 3, which provides access to major roads connecting Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, where the threat of illegal smuggling is significant.

Gregg, a Republican, and Shaheen, a Democrat, say building in Colebrook would boost the economy in northern New Hampshire and bring added safety to the state. Besides, they say, Vermont already has four border patrol stations.

Democratic Rep. Paul Hodes made a similar request to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency in February.
