More than 4,500 pounds of marijuana has been seized from a truck loaded with cattle east of Tucson.
It’s the largest marijuana seizure in the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s history for traffic stops.
The truck was stopped last week for an equipment violation and a commercial vehicle inspection was done.
DPS officials say 4,535 pounds of marijuana was found inside the trailer with the 68 head of cattle.
They say the male driver was a Mexican citizen and was arrested.
DPS says its records indicate the largest previous seizure of marijuana following a traffic stop by its Highway Patrol Division was approximately 4,100 pounds.

PHOENIX - Department of Public Safety officers uncovered a record amount of marijuana during a routine traffic stop east of Tucson last week.
DPS said in a Wednesday news release that a Commercial Enforcement officer stopped a truck loaded with cattle traveling on Interstate 10 for an equipment violation and a commercial vehicle inspection was conducted.
A canine officer assisted in the search and 4,535 pounds of marijuana were found along with the 68 head of cattle loaded on the trailer.
DPS said the largest previous seizure of marijuana following a traffic stop was approximately 4,100 pounds.
The driver, Juan Francisco Aguayo, a Mexican citizen with permanent resident alien status, was arrested.
DPS said in the past four months the Highway Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Border Enforcement Program, focusing on highways in the border region, have seized over 5,000 pounds of marijuana, 200 kilos of cocaine, and $1 million in U.S. currency.
