It's certainly starting to seem that way. I think a few people, including the likes of Jeff Sessions, probably convinced him that immigration and border security were winning issues that he could take advantage of to propel him into the White House.

I guess it's plausible that he was somewhat sincere in the beginning. However, deep down I believe his primary interest has always been what's best for corporations and businesses. That is why he invested so much political capital in pushing through his corporate tax breaks early on. His nomination of many rich businessmen like himself for cabinet positions should have been our first clue of where his true interest were.
