Border enforcement advocacy organizations say Donald Trump has several options to compel countries to take back their criminals who have been illegally living in the United States.
During his immigration policy address in Phoenix last week, Donald Trump made this pledge to the American electorate:
"Anyone who illegally crosses the border will be detained until they are removed out of our country and back to the country from which they came."
But several countries, including China, India, and Haiti, refuse to accept criminals the U.S. attempts to deport.
Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), points out that Trump has suggested ways to apply pressure on these countries.
"One of the most important things we can do is simply say, 'Look, if you're not going to take back your criminals, we're not going to issues visas to people from this country.' He's said that is one of things he's considering doing if he were to become president," Mehlman reports.
William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), suggests that America "cut off all financial aid and other diplomatic ties, and even proceed to sanctions if necessary for countries like China. China is encouraging their population to illegally immigrate to the United States across the Mexican border," he adds.
In April, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Utah Representative Jason Chaffetz (R), discussed some of those options during a hearing on immigration. Gheen says it will just take political will to do it.
