President Trump is pushing the Republican-controlled Congress to approve only a fifth of the money needed to build his $25 billion border wall, all of which is currently tied to a slew of open borders provisions.

In an interview with Politico, Trump said he would be “willing” to shut down the federal government if a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill does not include a measly $5 billion for his proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I am firm,” Trump said when asked if he would budge on the $5 billion in border wall funding.

In March, Trump said he would never sign another spending bill that did not include a single provision from his 70-point list of pro-American immigration reforms — where a border wall is only the beginning.

Over the course of the Politico interview, Trump does not make clear whether or not he would be willing to sign off on a number of open borders provisions in order to secure the $5 billion in border wall funding.

As Breitbart News has chronicled, the current DHS spending package ties $5 billion in border wall funds to a variety of cheap-labor giveaways to the big business lobby, the outsourcing industry, and the open borders lobby, including:

The DHS spending bill does not include any additional funding for the Border Patrol to effectively detain illegal aliens without releasing them into the American general public.

The bill also does not provide Trump with the funding for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to hire an additional 1,000 ICE agents. Trump has said for more than a year that he wants to increase the number of ICE agents, but the GOP Congress has failed to provide the funding.

Trump’s push for only a fifth of border wall funding comes as Democrats are set to take the majority in the House in the new year and as illegal immigration soars at the U.S.-Mexico border with a caravan of 7,000 to 10,000 Central Americans arriving.

October 2018 saw nearly 51,000 illegal aliens apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border with family unit crossings almost doubling what they were in October 2016, under President Obama. More than 23,000 family units crossed the southern border last month, compared to about 13,100 crossing in October 2016.

Last month’s illegal immigration totals at the southern border were so high that not since 2007 has the country seen this much illegal immigration in October. In October 2007, there were about 51,300 southwest border crossers.

We all thought it was bad under Obama, and voted for improvement, and what we got was twice as many invaders pouring in.

“I am firm,” Trump said when asked if he would budge on the $5 billion in border wall funding.

Seems last year we were hearing a very similar comment being made about the $25 billion we never got.

Trump's negotiating skills on immigration and border security issues to date have been absolutely lousy. Who said he was a great negotiator? Oh, that would be Trump.

For goodness sakes, he hasn't even been able to get the majority of Republicans to play ball. I'd almost wager my first born that he won't win reelection if he gives away the farm for 1/5th of his promised wall!

Giving an amnesty and other such concessions for a lousy $5 billion would be the straw that breaks his back!

    Don't do it, Mr. President!

I am guessing that after the amnesty and other concessions, and we get the $5 billion for the Wall, it still will not be build or even started. Then we will get the excuses

a butterfly can not get over
a frog can not get around
We do not want to offend Mexico, they are a wonderful trading partner
    Let's build bridges not walls

wasn't a fence and border security promised with other amnesty?----now look where we are

Almost 85% of House Republicans supported the Goodlatte bill which was Trump's 70 point plan plus 3, 3 year renewal permits for 590,000 DACA's if they met certain requirements. No path to citizenship. There was also a change in the H-2A agricultural visa program that extended the period from 6 months to 1 year, renewable for 3 years so year round farming operations could hire these workers if they could show the labor wasn't available in their area and couldn't be drawn into the area from an American work force. It had pretty stiff verification requirements.

That bill had 195 Republican votes, but needed 218 to pass, so it was 23 votes short, probably because we and some others so strongly opposed it. Trump negotiated that whole thing, it was actually a very good bill if you wanted to stop illegal immigration and fix our laws on illegal immigration and reduce legal immigration. Trump's 70 point plan all in that one bill, plus the $25 billion for the wall. But as a trade off, it granted DACA renewals to existing DACAs, but without a pathway to citizenship.

So, we said NO DACA DEAL and at least 39 listened to us and voted no, so the bill failed. It would have failed in the Senate anyway, because we didn't have 60 Republicans to pass the bill and couldn't find 9 DemoQuacks to vote with Republicans, so it doesn't really matter.

Under our system, you need votes in Congress to appropriate funds and pass laws and Republicans even if they all voted for what we wanted, couldn't pass a bill without DemoQuack support and there is none to be had, then or now.

There is some very good high tech security that would accomplish this, perhaps for something closer to the amount already appropriated by Congress---something like $700 million. In the case of the caravan, this was informally announced anyway, giving us an opportunity to get the military and added CBP there.

The overlooked part of our immigration policy is that we are still allowing advocay for illegals to go on almost unchecked.

Asking for this pie-in-the-sky project---and meanwhile conceding in several other areas---is not going to get us anywhere.

When you don't have the votes, it's all pie-in-the-sky.
