Trump: "We start very serious DACA talks today"

While unveiling his infrastructure plan, President Trump took a minute to talk about today's other big issue: Immigration.

The Senate is set to begin debate on immigration later today, fulfilling the promise Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made on the Senate floor to end the last government shutdown in mid-January, when he pledged to hold a neutral debate on the immigration issue that was "fair to all sides."

"I did not want DACA in the budget. I wanted DACA separate so that we could talk about it and make a deal," Trump said.

Trump also said it was up to Democrats to produce an agreement on DACA that would allow some undocumented immigrants to remain in the US.

"I hope the Democrats are not going to use it just as a campaign.

You know, they've been talking about DACA for many years, and they haven't produced," he said. "We started talking about DACA, and I think we'll produce. But if the Democrats want to make a deal, it's really up to them."

He added: "And now we start very serious DACA talks today."

Immigration debate likely happening tomorrow

The Senate has started the process leading to the immigration debate, voting 97-1 to break the filibuster of the motion to proceed.

The Senate still must adopt the motion to proceed before beginning the immigration debate, with that likely happening tomorrow.

Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, was the lone "no" vote.

The Senate adjourned until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

DML does a good job of analyzing the supposed “conservative” DACA fix and explaining, in very cogent terms, why it will fail to stop DACA from being lethal. DACA is like a cancerous tumor that must be cut out and thrown away. If it stays, no matter what kinds of drugs or pain relievers are used it will grow and grow until it kills.

Negotiations on DACA have begun. Republicans want to make a deal and Democrats say they want to make a deal. Wouldn’t it be great if we could finally, after so many years, solve the DACA puzzle. This will be our last chance, there will never be another opportunity! March 5th.
