Two men charged in illegal immigrant smuggling case
By Sarah Kneezle, Globe correspondent

A Medford man and a Pompano Beach, Fla., man have been charged with smuggling an illegal immigrant into the country from Brazil in return for a $10,000 fee, US Attorney Michael J. Sullivan's office said today.

Sullivan's office and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement alleged in federal court late Wednesday that Jose Marcos Silva, 40, of Medford and Edson Faustino, 40, of Pompano Beach, are part of a conspiracy in which they smuggled at least one illegal immigrant from Brazil to various locations before the van arrived in Cambridge.

If convicted, Silva and Faustino could each face up to 10 years in prison on the conspiracy charge and 5 years in prison on a charge of aiding and abetting bringing an illegal alien into the United States.
