Two women found taped, shot dead in Downtown Juárez

Click photo to enlarge(Special to the Times)«1»Two women whose faces were covered with tape were shot and killed in downtown Juárez, officials said. Their bodies were found Thursday morning.

Witnesses said three armed men forced the women to get out of a car and made them kneel before shooting them point-blank, according to a police spokesman.

Police recovered 11 bullet casings from a 9mm weapon at scene.

In a separate incident, the body of another woman was found Thursday morning on Camino Real Avenue behind military headquarters. The victim had been shot several times. She was described as between 20 and 30.

A fourth woman was killed when she and a man were found wrapped in blankets on a dirt path. They had been shot in the head.

Investigators will determine whether the slayings were hate crimes or whether they involved organized crime.

About 155 women have been killed in Juárez this year, 11 of them this month and six this week, according to officials.
