U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector seized approximately 294 pounds of marijuana near Tacna earlier this week.

According to the Yuma Sector Public Affairs Office, agents assigned to Wellton Station were conducting roving patrol duties Monday when agents observed subjects walking south of Interstate 8 near mile marker 47.

Agents began following footprints and immediately located one hiding under a bush near a makeshift backpack containing marijuana. Agents continued to follow the footprints and found three additional subjects with four more bundles of marijuana.

The marijuana, with an estimated street value of $235,120, was processed for destruction. The suspects were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

To report suspicious activity, call the Yuma Sector Border Patrol's toll-free number at 1-866-999-8727.
