A man shot and killed during a carjacking over the weekend has been identified as Pedro Rodriguez, Conroe police said on Monday.

Rodriguez and his friend Jaime Gonzalez, 34, of Madisonville, were robbed at gunpoint early Saturday. Rodriquez, whose age was not available, was from Jalisco, Mexico, but had lived in Madisonville for 10 years, police said.

Luis Enrique Rivera, 29, and Luis Antonio Menendez, 19, were arrested and charged with capital murder.

Both remained held without bail in the Montgomery County Jail on Monday. Also, jail records show U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has put them under immigration holds.

The robbery and carjacking happened about 1:15 a.m. after the victims met one of the suspects at a local restaurant, police said.

The suspect invited them back to his house to look at a vehicle he was trying to sell. They all went to the house, picked up another man and then headed to the store, police said.

During the trip to the store, either Rivera or Menendez allegedly shot Rodriguez in the back of the head, said authorities, who declined to name the suspected shooter because the case is still under investigation.

Gonzalez jumped out of the car before being shot and called police, officers said. Rivera and Menendez fled in the vehicle, authorities said.

The abandoned vehicle was found around 4 a.m., about two miles from the scene of the carjacking. Rodriguez was found dead inside the vehicle, authorities said.
