Email to a friendPost a CommentPrinter-friendlyWhat started as a street-level investigation by the Laredo police narcotics unit ended up as a seizure of more than 2 tons of marijuana at a ranch off Mines Road, outside the city limits.According to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement news release, ICE special agents worked in coordination with Laredo police narcotics officers, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force members and Webb County deputies to make the drug seizure on Saturday.

"You need to coordinate with them because it's a much bigger case and because of the amount, it goes beyond street level narcotics," said Officer Jose E. Baeza, Laredo Police Department spokesman. "You're talking about mass shipments of mass quantities of drugs, so you need to talk to (federal agents) so they can (investigate) who's behind the whole thing."

According to an ICE news release, one Mexican male national was arrested at the scene.

ICE could not be reached for further comment.

Baeza also said he did not have much information on the incident and that more should be released today.

I hope the Mines Road ranch is confiscated under forfeiture laws to help take the profit out of crime.

How much marijuana is grown and smuggled into the U.S.---agents have been seizing tons of it at the border and in TX and AZ lately.
