TX AG to WH: We WillNot Delay DACA Lawsuit

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said yesterday that Texas and the nine other states will not delay the Sept. 5 deadline for Pres. Trump to end DACA.If the administration continues to issue work permits under DACA the 10 states will amend their current DAPA case to include DACA.

Accordingto a CNN report the Trump administration asked for anextension on the DACA deadline in the wake of Texas being hit by Hurricane Harvey.

“The court-ordered deadline in DACA was set several weeks ago, and we are completelyprepared to comply with it on September 5,” Kayleigh Lovvorn, a Paxtonspokeswoman, said in an email.

Whenasked yesterday if Pres. Trump has decided to end DACA, White House spokesmanSarah Huckabee said a decision has yet to be made.

“This is under review — there are a lot of components that need to be looked at — and once a decision is made, we will certainly let you guys know,” she told reporters.

Immigration attorney David Leopold said, “If they include it in the lawsuit inTexas, we all know how this goes. Judge Hanen has already ruled that [DAPA/extended DACA] violated the law, and he’s going to do the same thing to DACA. My guess is that Judge Hanen, in fact, will put a hold on DACA … at aminimum, he would stop or restrain renewal of [work permits provided by] DACA.”
