U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (06/02/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 19,305 pounds of marijuana and 81.2 pounds of heroin. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 11 gang members. There were two rocking incidents.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,018 pounds of marijuana, a Ford truck, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near Freer, Texas.
Agent’s suspicions were raised when they observed counterfeit law enforcement decals displayed on the vehicle. Following a vehicle stop, a Border Patrol canine alerted to the presence of contraband inside the truck. A search by agents revealed the marijuana inside.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 81.2 pounds of heroin, a Ford truck, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search by agents revealed the heroin inside the truck.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents assisted other Federal and local law enforcement officers in the arrest of an illegal alien from Mexico for kidnapping at a bus station near Laredo, Texas. The subject was en route to Mexico after kidnapping an 11-year-old female in the state of Illinois. The child was returned unharmed to proper authorities.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,769 pounds of marijuana and a Ford truck near Garciasville, Texas. The driver absconded after the vehicle became inoperative. The marijuana was discovered in the vehicle. Records checks revealed the truck had been reported stolen.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Gila Bend, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 679 pounds of marijuana and a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe near Penitas, Texas. Agents observed a vehicle being loaded with suspected narcotics, then traveling north away from the international border. As agents approached, they observed several home-made spikes on the road. The driver of the load vehicle then drove southbound toward the border and absconded on foot into Mexico. The marijuana was discovered inside the abandoned vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for assault with a firearm on a person in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a criminal history, to include a conviction for dangerous drugs, and was identified as a Sureño gang member. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,079 pounds of marijuana and recovered two stolen vehicles in Abram, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading suspected narcotics into the two vehicles near the Rio Grande River. The drivers absconded, and a search revealed the marijuana inside the vehicles.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Casa Grande, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape in the state of Washington and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lascivious acts and sexual penetration with foreign object of a minor in the state of California. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Yuma, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, to include convictions for aggravated driving under the influence, assault and disorderly conduct. The subject was also a registered sex offender and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued three illegal aliens from Mexico after receiving information that the subjects were lost in the desert near Indio, California. One of the three subjects was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released into Border Patrol custody.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,297 pounds of marijuana and recovered a Ford truck near Donna, Texas. Agents observed several individuals loading suspected narcotics into the vehicle near the Rio Grande River. The subjects abandoned the vehicle and absconded to Mexico when agents responded to the scene. A search uncovered the marijuana inside the vehicle. Records checks revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Alamo, Texas.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,905 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet truck near Menengers, Arizona. Agents observed the vehicle driving without headlights through the desert. Agents responded to the area and encountered the vehicle abandoned with the marijuana inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Willcox, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a Sureño 13 gang member with an extensive criminal history, and had been previously removed from the United States.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC near Del Rio, Texas. The subject was encountered on the side of the road attempting to smash open a cash register. Records checks revealed the subject was wanted for murder in the state of Texas, and he was turned over to local law enforcement officers.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a loaded AK-47 assault rifle, recovered two stolen vehicles, and arrested four illegal aliens from Mexico near Santa Rosa, Arizona. Agents encountered the two vehicles abandoned and a search of the immediate area revealed the four subjects and the weapon.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, to include a felony conviction for obstruction of justice. The subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang, and had also been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,582 pounds of marijuana, a 2010 tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer, and a search revealed the marijuana concealed inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Nogales, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon in the state of North Carolina.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Weatherford, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for delivery of a controlled substance and an active arrest warrant for aggravated sexual assault on a child issued in the state of Texas. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,613 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer, and a search revealed the marijuana concealed inside.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,869 pounds of marijuana, a van, a panga-style boat, and arrested seven subjects near La Jolla, California. Agents affected the arrests after observing the subjects loading bales of suspected narcotics from the boat into the van.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized three rifles, three handguns, and 383 rounds of ammunition in San Simon, Arizona. An agent observed two suspicious individuals near a highway and agents responded to investigate. Agents were unable to locate the individuals, but did locate the unloaded weapons and ammunition in two abandoned backpacks. Records checks on two of the weapons revealed one was reported stolen in the state of Arizona and one was reported stolen in the state of California.
