Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station arrested a convicted sex offender Thursday, after learning the man had an outstanding warrant.

Agents from the Carrizo Springs Border Patrol Station, manning a traffic checkpoint, arrested a 31-year-old Carrizo Springs man, after discovering he had an active warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The subject was wanted for violation of a court order stemming from a September arrest for alien smuggling. Records checks also revealed he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault, of a four-year-old girl in 2003, and sentenced to seven years probation.

While on probation on the aggravated sexual assault charge, the subject was arrested, in 2003, for alien smuggling and sentenced to 24 months in prison and three years of supervised release. That arrest for alien smuggling constituted a violation of his probation, for the sexual assault conviction, and he was subsequently ordered to serve out the remainder of his sentence in prison.

Randy Clark, patrol agent in charge of the Carrizo Springs Station, commended his agents’ diligence in thoroughly investigating the subject when he was encountered at the checkpoint.

“This is yet another example of how enforcement efforts of our Border Patrol agents can positively impact the quality of life for local residents,â€
