SOUTH OF EDINBURG - A suspect has been arrested in the death of 3-year-old Yaritza Maria Garabay and three more arrests are expected soon, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.

Dimas Daniel Zamora, 22, is expected to be arraigned today at 3 p.m. at the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility, according to a sheriff's press release.

Law enforcement has been searching for the men involved in the July 29 shooting that left Garabay dead and wounded her 17-year-old cousin Christina Meza.

Garabay's parents were driving along Sugar Road just north of Owassa Road around 10:20 p.m. when the men forced the vehicle over and shot 17 bullets into the car. The parents were able to duck and avoid injury.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadlupe "Lupe" Treviño previously told The Monitor that the incident was not "random or an act of road rage... they got followed, they got stopped, they got hit."

Deputies found the 1999 white Ford Taurus, they believe to be involved in the shooting, at the Universal Towing Service lot in Hidalgo after it had been illegally parked and towed on Aug. 4. Two days later, the authorities asked the U.S. Marshal's Service to help them locate Zamora, who they believed to be in Mexico.

Zamora was found at Reynosa's bus station on Aug. 7, and the FBI assisted in his arrest and transport to sheriff's custody.

The motive for the murder was the retaliation for Amador Garabay's bonding out of Jose Contreras Silva on July 12. Garabay is the toddler's father, the release stated.

Contreras was arrested for the attempted murder of Leon Mendoza on May 31 at the cockfight held at 5 ½ Mile Line and Western Road.

Zamora was also wanted for two attempted murder warrants and one drug possession warrant out of the Pharr Police Department.

Zamora is a U.S. citizen and the remaining three suspects are Mexican nationals, according to the release.
