Border fence work resumes after Dolly
Associated Press
While the Rio Grande Valley was busy with Hurricane Dolly and her aftermath, contractors began work on the area's first two segments of the border fence project.
Two small pieces of Hidalgo County's combined levee-border wall are part of 70 miles of border barriers planned for the lower Rio Grande Valley.
Workers missed a day while Dolly passed, but otherwise the project was unaffected, Hidalgo County spokeswoman Cari Lambrecht said Monday.

Border wall construction begins in Hidalgo County

The Monitor
GRANJENO - Border wall construction has begun in Hidalgo County.
The construction had initially been planned to begin last week, but was delayed due to Hurricane Dolly.
Over the weekend, crews began moving dirt near Granjeno and Donna, said Godfrey Garza, manager of Hidalgo County Drainage District #1, on Monday.
Garza expects crews to start working on the concrete portion of the wall within a week.
The concrete barrier will also serve to reinforce the county's levees.
Hidalgo County is slated to have 22 miles of concrete walls as part of a controversial effort Congress approved to erect physical barriers along parts of the United States' southern border in the name of national security.
