McALLEN - Police arrested a Border Patrol agent officer Thursday, who they say abused his official role to smuggle cocaine.

Investigators believe Ramiro Flores Jr., 36, used his credentials and badge to bypass Transportation Security Administration screeners at McAllen-Miller International Airport with a bag containing six kilograms of cocaine.

Once past the checkpoint, he swapped bags with an accomplice in the bathroom and then boarded a plane, according to a criminal complaint filed in his case.

Officers arrested him after the aircraft landed in Houston. He was off-duty at the time, U.S. Attorneys said.
