About 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, camera operators observed a subject who entered the U.S. Illegally then jumped into an irrigation canal about one mile east of the Bridge of the Americas.

The operators alerted agents that the woman was being swept away by swift-moving currents. They also alerted the El Paso Fire Department, officials said.

Border Patrol agents deployed a rescue rope for the woman to grab. Agents pulled her from the currents, and EMS crews provided medical attention. She indicated that she did not need any further medical help and was then taken into Border Patrol custody for repatriation to Mexico.

As of Aug. 31, El Paso Border Patrol agents have saved the lives of 43 people, many of which were rescued from swift-moving water, officials said.
