TX: Busload of Suspected Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Beau

Busload of Suspected Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Beaumont
    POSTED BY N.S.

Two Beaumont patrol officers found more than they were looking for when they stopped a bus for a traffic violation Monday. It happened just before 2pm as Officers Lachance and Clint Weir were patrolling IH10 near the 843 mile marker west bound.

When the patrolmen stopped the bus, they found the driver and co-driver did not meet Department of Transportation regulations. There were also several safety violations with the bus.

Out of the 46 passengers on board, only 43 could prove they were in the United States legally. Officers notified the office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) At this point, federal agents took charge of the scene. Beaumont police Officers escorted the federal agents and the bus and all it's passengers to I.C.E. Headquarters for processing.

    The incident remains under investigation.

Guess there is no money sneaking them in one at a time
bus load at a time, our border is wide open while Homeland Security has
so many "officers" at the airports you can't get a seat to eat a snack.
Tens of thousands will go home to Mexico for Christmas with no worry about returning illegally after the holiday. As long as ther are kids in the car illegals are seldom arrested at the check points near the border.

I'm confused. There were only THREE illegals on board? Is there a mis-print, where only three could prove they were in the U.S. legally? 3 illegals out of 46 is not that many.

    Anyone?

    Police detain bus, question passengers

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was processing 46 people of Hispanic descent traveling on a bus after a routine traffic stop Monday, police said.

Of those, three initially were suspected of being in this country without proper documents.

Beaumont police stopped the passenger bus for a traffic violation at about 1:45 p.m. on Interstate 10 just inside the southern city limits, police said.

Once stopped, the Beaumont officers determined the driver and co-driver didn't meet U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, a police press release said.

A Department of Public Safety trooper who is a certified commercial motor vehicle inspector came to the scene and discovered several other violations, the release said.

Police question a person's citizenship status based on identification cards or by questioning, Beaumont police officer and spokeswoman Carman Apple said.

"If (police) ask for identification and get something that we believe is fraudulent, that merits deeper investigation," she said. "If the person does not have identification, then simple questions could determine if the person is here legally or not.

"And if there is suspicion that the person may be here illegally, we turn the investigation over to immigration and customs enforcement."

Well, I called the Beaumont P.D. just now and clarified the situation.

43 of the 46 passengers were illegal, the Beaumont Enterprise got it wrong.
