Fingerprint Technology Key in Identification
(Monday, March 05, 2012)
Tucson, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents working in the west desert apprehended a Mexican national yesterday wanted on an active felony warrant.
Casa Grande Station agents apprehended a 26-year-old man for illegally entering the United States near San Miguel. During processing record checks revealed previous convictions for felony cocaine manufacture and distribution in 2011 and a subsequent removal from the United States. Records also indicated the subject has an active felony warrant for escape, issued from Olympia, Wash., by the Department of Corrections Probation-Parole. He will be turned over to the Tucson Police Department for extradition.
The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System identifies subjects’ criminal and immigration history, allowing Border Patrol agents to quickly identify and classify criminal offenders and wanted persons. IAFIS ensures that individuals are brought to an appropriate law enforcement resolution and penalties are upheld to the fullest extent of the law.
Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling (877) 872-7435 toll free.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
