HIDALGO — U.S. customs officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge arrested a Cuban national who allegedly lied about his legal status.

Pablo Erid Seculi Tolosa, 35, attempted to illegally cross into the United States using the pedestrian lane Wednesday, according to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Tolosa told officers he was a U.S. citizen living in Miami.

The man was referred to a secondary inspection station, where a CBP database check identified him as an illegal immigrant who had previously been ordered deported from the United States.

After his arrest, the man was taken to a local detention center, where he remains incarcerated pending an appearance before a U.S. immigration judge.
