EL PASO — The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department and the Consulate General of Mexico in El Paso renewed an agreement regarding the care of Mexican nationals, in particular children, who come to the attention of the New Mexico department's protective services, consular officials said.
According to the agreement, CYFD workers are to notify the Consulate when they receive custody of Mexican nationals. The agreement between the CYFD and the Mexican Consulate was first signed in 1990.

"This new, revitalized agreement will ensure that minors are treated as a shared responsibility between the two countries," Mexican Consul General Roberto Rodriguez said.
