Dozens arrested in Harris County in drug trafficking ring

Teams of federal agents and police swept through Harris County Tuesday to arrest at least two dozen alleged members of drug trafficking organization with ties from Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel to cities such as Houston, Atlanta and Dallas.

They were taken to the Drug Enforcement Administration's Houston headquarters, where they were shackled and marched aboard vans for a heavily guarded convoy to Beaumont, where they face prosecution.

They are accused of assorted roles in an alleged widespread cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy that appears to have used Houston as a hub for bringing the illicit products into the United States from Mexico before shipping them elsewhere.

Dubbed Agent Orange for an operation that began in the City of Orange, authorities are to announce more details this afternoon.

Those arrested were included in a 35-defendant indictment a federal grand jury returned June 3.

Search and arrest warrants were also executed in Galveston, Chambers, Orange and Jefferson counties as well as in Hearne, Bryan and Conroe, according to information from the U.S. Attorney's office.
