US Dept of Homeland Security Apprehends over 3000 in Oct. 2008

The US Deparment of Homeland Securiy and combined resources of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Customs & Border Protection (CPB) so far this month have apprehended over 3100 individuals.

80 Illegal Aliens Intercepted near Puerto Rico
October 28, 2008 (Aguadilla, P.R.) - Border Patrol agents took custody of 39 illegal aliens from the Dominican Republic who were intercepted onboard a pleasure craft sailboat. In another incident, 41 aliens who had arrived via sailboat were detained in separate vehicles traveling northbound to the San Juan Metropolitan area. More at CBP.gov

Four ICE Teams Arrest 189 in New Jersey
October 27, 2008 (Newark, N.J.) - Four ICE New Jersey Fugitive Operations Teams arrested a total of 145 fugitive aliens. Of the 145 fugitives arrested, 65 had criminal records. An additional 44 immigration violators were arrested, 22 with criminal histories. Criminal histories of the aliens arrested included convictions for sexual assault, assault, driving under the influence, and various drug convictions including possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and criminal possession of marijuana. ICE Arrests 96 in New York
October 27, 2008 (New York) - ICE officers arrested 96 fugitives and immigration violators in New York and Long Island during a targeted enforcement that ran October 14-26. Of the 96 aliens arrested, 90 were fugitive targets of the operation and 46 of them had criminal histories. Crimes include burglary, bail jumping, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, DUI, DWI, resisting arrest, robbery, and trademark counterfeiting. More at ICE.gov

ICE Teams Arrest 99 in Pennsylvania, Delaware
October 27, 2008 (Philadelphia) - ICE's Philadelphia-based Fugitive Operations Teams arrested 37 fugitives, which included 14 with criminal records. During the operation an additional 62 immigration violators were arrested, 27 with criminal histories. All of the arrests occurred in Pennsylvania and Delaware. More at ICE.gov

ICE Team Arrests 19 in Minnesota
October 24, 2008 (Bloomington, Minn.) - Two ICE Fugitive Operations Teams arrested 19 fugitive aliens and immigration violators in southern Minnesota during a three-day initiative. Of the 19 aliens apprehended, five have previous criminal convictions in addition to their administrative immigration violations. Their crimes include burglary, providing false information to police, drunken driving, passing bad checks, and driving without insurance. More at ICE.gov

CBP, Coast Guard Interdict Five Migrants
October 13, 2008 (San Diego) - Coast Guard officers and Customs and Border Protection marine interdiction agents apprehended five Mexican migrants as they tried to illegally enter the U.S. by boat. More at USCG.mil

ICE Teams Arrest 99 Aliens in Dallas Area
October 10, 2008 (Dallas) - Three local ICE teams of officers arrested 99 fugitive aliens and other immigration violators as part of a five-day operation in Dallas, Denton and Lewisville, Texas. Those arrested are from Costa Rica, Egypt, El Salvador, Mexico, Nepal and Nicaragua. Fifty eight of those arrested had final orders of deportation; 41 were immigration violators encountered during the course of the targeted operation; 22 of those arrested had previous criminal convictions. Coast Guard Repatriates 146 Dominicans
October 10, 2008 (San Juan, Puerto Rico) - The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Key Largo repatriated 146 Dominican migrants to La Romana, Dominican Republic, following an at-sea interdiction by Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG) agencies. Coast Guard law enforcement personnel detained 11 Dominicans of the 157 migrants aboard the interdicted yola, for attempting to enter illegally into the United States or a U.S. Territory on multiple occasions. Coast Guard Repatriates 57 to Haiti
October 10, 2008 (Miami) - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Decisive repatriated 52 Haitian migrants and five Indian nationals to Cap-Haitien, Haiti. More at USCG.mil

CBP, Coast Guard Find 157 Dominicans
October 9, 2008 (San Juan, Puerto Rico) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and U.S. Coast Guard personnel discovered 157 Dominicans aboard a small overloaded boat. Eleven of the migrants were turned over to CBP Border Patrol agents for attempting to enter illegally into the United States or a U.S. Territory on multiple occasions. Coast Guard Repatriates 40 Dominicans
October 8, 2008 (San Juan, Puerto Rico) - The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Matinicus repatriated 40 Dominican migrants to La Romana, Dominican Republic, following an at-sea interdiction by Coast Guard law enforcement crews. More at USCG.mil

ICE Agents Arrest Approximately 300 in South Carolina
October 7, 2008 (Greenville, S.C.) - ICE special agents administratively arrested approximately 300 illegal aliens while executing a federal criminal search warrant at the Columbia Farms poultry processing plant as part of an ongoing, 10-month criminal investigation into its employment practices. The investigation has already resulted in criminal charges against 11 supervisors and one human resources manager. More at ICE.gov

Coast Guard Repatriates 42 Dominicans
October 3, 2008 (San Juan, Puerto Rico) - The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Chandeleur repatriated 42 Dominican migrants to La Romana, Dominican Republic Friday, while 17 others were detained for prosecution following two at-sea interdictions by Department of Homeland Security and Puerto Rico law enforcement authorities. ICE Teams Arrest 78 Illegal Aliens in Penn, Del.
October 1, 2008 (Philadelphia) - ICE's local fugitive operations teams arrested a total of 78 illegal aliens during a week-long operation in Pennsylvania and Delaware. ICE officers arrested 43 fugitives, which included 13 with criminal records, and 35 immigration violators were arrested, 13 with criminal histories. More at ICE.gov
