ICE nets $3M of marijuana in Starr County

RIO GRANDE CITY — Authorities netted 3,688 pounds of marijuana from a stash house east of the city.

On Monday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents received information of suspicious activity apparently coming from the neighborhood.

ICE special agents alongside local law enforcement went to the house, where they received consent from the property owner to search the area.

The property owner told investigators the home was abandoned. But inside a storage room, authorities found 293 bricks of marijuana that weigh about 3,688 pounds.

The drugs carried a street value of nearly $3 million.

ICE made no arrests in the seizure. The case remains under investigation.

U.S. Border Patrol agents, Roma police officers and Starr County sheriff's deputies assisted in the investigaton.
