Immigration attorney wants asylum policy enforced

EL PASO - A prominent immigration attorney is demanding immigration authorities comply with a new federal policy and release his client. Maria de Jesus Chavez.

Chavez was detained December 9th at the border with her brother a Juarez radio broadcaster and his family. They fled after her two teenaged sons were murdered after Ricardo Chavez denounced his nephews' killing on the air.

His family got death threats.

other relatives are free...but not Chavez, the mother of the murdered teens. Her lawyer represents a growing number asylum cases involving people from Juarez. Spector wants his clients released.

"We're asking the Obama administration and the higher ups in Washington to take a good look at this in terms of the reluctance that this bureaucracy is going to continue to implement old rules"

According to a spokesperson with Immigration and Customs Enforcement the agency has been applying the new policy to new arrivals at the border --and those with credible for claims who are in custody.
