JIM WELLS COUNTY - Investigators in Jim Wells County believe the extreme heat killed a suspected illegal immigrant Tuesday and put another one in the hospital in Alice.

Tuesday night, a deputy was chasing a truck believed to be carrying illegals north of Premont, when it pulled off the road near County Road 428 and the occupants bailed out.

When the truck was searched, deputies found the body of an unidentified male in the cab. The border patrol later rounded up six people near the scene and one of them was hospitalized for possible heat stroke.

The truck driver could face charges for the man's death, but authorities still aren't sure if he was in the group of people who were taken into custody.
