PORT ARTHUR- Six people were taken to jail and a dozen illegal immigrants are facing deportation thanks to the work of Port Arthur Police, Groves police, ICE, The U.S. Marshal Service, The F.B.I. and D.P.S.
According to Port Arthur Police Chief Mark Blanton the agencies received information from the hispanic community concerning 20 suspected gang houses in the city.
As a result of Wednesday's effort 2 people were arrested for possession of marijuana and 4 others had outstanding warrants. Blanton says officers recovered illegal firearms and cockfighting apparatus from some of the homes.
The chief is cracking down on gangs in Port Arthur and he says these arrests are part of an on-going effort to put repeat offenders away for longer sentences. He credits the Port Arthur hispanic community for their bravery in working with and trusting law enforcment to stop the threat of gangs.
